The problem with space travel is not really the extremly large distanceper se but that they take too long to traverse. So, if you cannot finda short cut the only remaing option is to extend endurance. One possible way to do this would be through hibernation. The assumption is that a person in hierbation does not get ored from watching stars passing by an that their lifespan would possibly be very much extended.

In present cyropreservation, the cells being preserved are often damaged due to freezing of water either on cooling or subsequent warming to room temperature."Damage of the cells occurs due to the extra-cellular and intra-cellular ice formation which leads to dehydration and separation into the ice and concentrated unfrozen solution. If we could, by slow cooling/warming, supercool and then warm the cells without the crystallization of water then the cells would be undamaged."

I wouldn't mind staying in hibrnation all winter and waking up a couple of months every year for summer and perhaps for a week of skiing.
